Pluto In Capricorn — A Personal Tale

pluto_3moons_art_32Moving outward towards the darkness of space.

For most people that swing by here on a semi-regular basis, you know that the content is usually social, political, economic, etc. Rarely do I focus mainly on the personal side of things. However, this post is slightly different as it relates to Pluto in Capricorn and how it is impacting my life. Pluto has just recently dipped into my second house and almost on cue, my marriage of six years has come to an end. I’ll skip the personal autopsy (for now) and speak to how this transit relates overall and to me specifically.

As we have noted throughout this planetary shift, Pluto breaks down, then re-builds in whatever sector in ones chart it falls. For me, in my chart, it’s my second house, the one most closely connected to resources, security, money, psychological foundations, root chakra issues, comfort and so on.

For the past year, ever since my corporate gig went away, I have been struggling to find balance as a stay-home-dad and a bustling blogger. My wife has been blessed with excellent management and leadership skills and has parlayed them into a an executive position with a Fortune 100 company, so money wasn’t as much of an issue as it could be under other circumstances. But due to my inability to strike a balance, along with those all-too-familiar irreconcilable differences we are parting ways. It’s impacting me on so many levels that I don’t have the space, nor the hubris to think that the world is that invested in my story. But I share this only in that it relates to how Pluto is taking a wrecking ball at my personal foundation, my connection to my family, resources and in some ways, security. I knew that this would come on some level, so I did my best to calmly prepare for this day.

So in the midst of the greatest economic downturn in history, I will be faced with leaving my home and re-entering the work force. This is where Pluto in Capricorn is initiating me into deeper levels of personal security and ultimately sovereignty. So while I will still look at the big picture in nearly all of my posts, from this point forward though, I will check in on the personal level every now and then with reports from the front lines of Pluto in Capricorn.

  1. Hi Robert,
The advantage you have is that you obviously have a lot of Scorpio energy in your chart, so you are not new to the “process” of these factors. That’s why you are resisting them. There are always opportunities for personal cleansing and ritual which can bring a meaning of sorts to the whole. (Ever try a Sweat Lodge? Very Plutonic stuff!) It’s yet another opportunity for you to increase your measure of faith in life itself. Sometimes we don’t know where we stand until we are tested
I am looking at a career change myself. Though, thankfully, not a divorce, as well… I own a small advertising business which is marginally successful, but a recent downturn in sales has me looking at a cash flow business, such as vending. Like most small business people, I am short on capital. This creates yet another opportunity for me to get creative, know what i mean?
You probably have at least one or two ideas of what you might like to do for money When Pluto transited my second house, Imade money by working in a kitchen. Pluto likes it hot, you know!
    Hang in there, Shawn

  2. Thanks Shawn. With Scorpio ascendant and Mars in house eight, I am more than familiar with this cycle. Breathing, surrendering to surrender.

  3. hi Robert,

Thanks for your honesty in writing about what’s going on for you personally – I think there’s a lot of power in that. Whenever I’m going through some huge life transition (which is often, with my Sun conjunct Pluto), I’m SO grateful for the astrological perspective – the awareness that it’s just TIME for something to happen and that there’s a higher purpose behind it (even if I can’t fully understand it in the moment). As I’m sure you’re aware, Pluto comes from the Greek word for “wealth” – I’m holding the vision for you uncovering great riches & resources through this 2nd house transit, once you’ve gone through the initial purging and releasing process. Take good care of yourself, Emily

  4. Robert –

thank you for trusting us. I do not want to quibble with the post you shared, but I can’t refrain from a question: Have you taken a good look at your 4th house? You focus on the 2nd, of values, money, worth. While you state:

“Pluto is taking a wrecking ball at my personal foundation, my connection to my family, resources and in some ways, security.”

The terms “personal foundation” “family” “security” ring of 4th house roots to me, truly base chakra.

Is the Saturn-Uranus opposition in play?

Your articles are powerful and compelling—is Uranus urging you toward something irresistable?

  5. So sorry to read this, Robert. It’ll be okay though – you know that, don’t you? This is Pluto’s first act only. I know it from personal experience.
Pluto conjoined my natal Venus in 2003, my partner of 33 years died after a long illness. I was devastated, but within a few months I’d met my now husband and the healing began. I like the metaphor of an abcess for Pluto – clearing away the stuff that has to go for whatever reason, then comes the healing strengthening.
A big cyber hug from me coming atcha, Robert. Stay strong.

  6. Thanks for all the insight and support from everyone. There’s something very powerful and cathartic about sharing and keeps my process pretty real.

  7. Hi Robert,

I am sorry to hear that you and your wife are parting ways. I want you to know that being a stay at home dad is valuable and important. Your child will remember the time you spent with him/her. Our family went through some MAJOR life changes last year. We worked through it and are still a work in progress. We didn’t give up. We are in therapy and doing what we can to rebuild. Don’t be scared to reenter the work force. You have a lot to offer. Thank you for sharing your personal story.

    Stay strong,

    Abra
